Krivan, the unofficial symbol of Slovakia.

It has been a long time since I wanted to hike up to the top of Krivan, one of the highest peaks and unofficial symbol of Slovakia with altitude of 2,495 meters. Finally I put together a small group of friends and we left for High Tatras. Our departing point was called “Tri studnicky” a place where you can park the car and start to walk. The trail to the top was just 7 km long, but we had to do almost 1,400 meters of hill climb. The way to the top starts to be interesting once you get to the blue trail and you leave easy green trail. So last 1 hour is the most difficult because the trail is basically just rocks you have to climb. This part might be a bit more difficult for those with a bad physical condition or someone who doesn’t like heights.

Finally after around 3 hours and 30 minutes we reached the top of Krivan. The view was magnificent, at least for that time without clouds, because suddenly in few minutes we couldn’t see anything. After some pictures taken and provisional lunch eaten on Krivan it was time to head back. It was more difficult that you can imagine. The reason was not the trail, but amount of people going up. Although it was Wednesday, Krivan was getting so crowded like a shopping center during weekend. It is already very well-known fact that High Tatras are full of Polish and Czech tourists and it was the same during our trip. We heard just a few Slovaks and most of the people we met were Polish. It is a little bit sad that we have such an amazing nature and most of the people there are not from our country.
